Freelancing Rate Calculator

Going into freelance writing is great fun, but it has some confusing hurdles to overcome. I've done what it sounds like most writers do: market research.

I wish I had discovered Freelance Switch's Hourly Rate Calculator sooner! I love the fact that it works proportionally, so it doesn't matter what currency you use--dollars, euros, pesos, etc.

Freelance Switch also has some great--though long--podcasts: Free Lance Radio. They talk about rates in Episode 1 during the first two segments. You can see the breakdown in the episode notes.

Very good find.

  1. Clever. However, it fails ot take into account the local going rate. We don't want to be discounters. That brings down the rate for everyone. Maybe I could work less...

  2. You make a good point, though it seems like a good place to start.

  4. I write articles for the translation industry, a few things in the local paper, some web content, blogs, and creative work.

My samples are at www.DelightedScribbler.com. And I have a few things on Helium.com and Authors Den.com.

My heart is set on getting an agent for my novel. Still working on that. Ever hopeful :-)

The NONEXISTENT Rockway Press Short Story Contest

Rockway Press never actually posted the winners of the 2007 contest. Their site has entirely disappeared, and they're on the Preditors and Editors list.
