Film Festival

Anyone go to AFI Dallas International Film Festival? It ran from March 27 to April 6 and I only managed to catch one film. Next festival I need a game plan.

Anyway, I saw Flash Point, a Chinese movie with Dao Huo Xian. If you get a chance to see it, it's a fun movie.

This is the summary in one of the AFI fliers: A two-fisted cinematic powder keg about a hot-headed cop Jun whose punch-drunk brand of justice earns him constant reprimands from his superiors, who is after the drug-dealing brothers Archer, Tony and Tiger.

To me, it's Lethal Weapon meets Jackie Chan. The best parts of the movie are, of course, the fight scenes. They use moves seen less commonly in martial arts movies. And you get very cool angles and slowmo shots!

Weaknesses? Well, it's a bit cheesy and, as a friend pointed out, the blood sucks. The makeup people need to work on that a bit. And while there are a few original moments, it's mostly predictable.

That said, it was a fun film to watch. I didn't walk out on a hero high, ready to kick ass and take names like I did coming out of, say, Batman Begins, but it was still a good time.
