The AMT Mafia Rant

Sunday is supposed to be spent with family and friends. Instead it was all-work. Fortunately we had movies and micheladas by the pool to break up the day.

But that's not the rant I'm about to embark on. I know that ATMs have their fees, yada yada, blah blah blegh, but seriously, Chase out-of-country banking fees are outrageous. It really is just not worth it unless we withdraw large sums.

We had Wamu accounts for years. Now I wish that during the Chase takeover we had opted for selecting a completely different bank instead of staying on with them. Chase has some good aspects, but it’s service is spotty and now we have ATM hold ups --I’m sorry, but $3 for checking my balance plus $3 for using the ATM, plus $3 for the non-Chase ATM, plus the tax charged on all withdrawals… that’s a hold up.

Anyway, I’ve been digging around, and it seems there are far better options than this legal skimming of my funds. So, if you plan on traveling to Mexico, you can either pay for everything with your card (good luck with that when taking taxis or going to open markets or small stores or street vendors or half the businesses in town) or you can open an account that won’t hijack your funds demanding crazy fees for their release.

Yeah, it’s time to shop for a new bank. I hear Bank of America lets you withdraw sans fees at Santander and Scotiabank. Hmmm. It’s research time.
