Sudden Burst of Activity

I'm having one of those Dear-God-what-have-I-gotten-myself-into moments. This coming Saturday, May 16, I'm walking 10 K (6.2 miles) to combat Cystic Fibrosis at 8:30 ... a.m.... in the morning.

I was very excited when I committed to do this, envisioning the enormous satisfaction the day CF researchers announced a cure, knowing all the while that I played a tiny role in supporting them. I didn't think about the A.M. part of this plan.

I'm not exactly a morning person.

The walk is for charity -- see happy widget below waiting for donations big and small -- so I'm all in 100%, but somehow I think my strides will be floppy, draggy, and slow. And I don't think I can walk and sip coffee without needing major bathroom breaks every other mile!

So, I'm trying to get to bed earlier this week and take tips from my marathon man. And while I don't promise stylistic marvels, amazing record time, or even full consciousness, if you guys support me, I will finish. (No, I don't know how yet.)

And, if I don't keel over, I'll be dragon boat racing on Sunday. That one's not for charity. It's the result of a combination of insanity and poor planning.

Rockway Press never actually posted the winners of the 2007 contest. Their site has entirely disappeared, and they're on the Preditors and Editors list.
